Network Topology & IoT
This pillar documents the connection between the digital homelab infrastructure and the physical environment.
1. Network Topologies
Section titled “1. Network Topologies”Detailed documentation of physical drops, keystone jacks, and PoE budgeting across all the rooms. The complete layout of the Unifi stack will be structurally linked to the physical property layout, enabling instantaneous visual troubleshooting. If a port goes down, the documentation will show exactly which physical wall plate correlates to the switch port.
2. IoT Sensor Grids
Section titled “2. IoT Sensor Grids”Tracking spatial positioning and IDs of:
- Presence sensors (e.g., Aqara FP2 mmWave)
- Smart plugs
- Climate and ambient sensors
By mapping exact sensor placements in the 3D space, their logical linkage into Home Assistant’s architecture becomes visually comprehensible. This approach simplifies troubleshooting automation bugs that rely on spatial context, such as room presence or specific environmental triggers.
